St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport has more than 3,200 employees. It includes a 473-bed community teaching hospital, a 76-bed inpatient psychiatric facility in Westport, a large multispecialty provider group, and special needs services for adults and children. St. Vincent’s is the first hospital in Fairfield County to be integrated into the Hartford HealthCare network, and is the system’s second-largest hospital.
Performs and assists with a variety of adult echocardiographic tests and other related duties according to department policies and procedures in order to provide high quality diagnostic studies.
Provides safe and appropriate care to patients undergoing echocardiography by maintaining comprehensive understanding of cardiac anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology. Provides preliminary findings to Cardiologist to aid in the interpretation of the study.
Advanced technical position that provides clinical expertise and education to the Cardiology department, to ensure that a high quality, cost effective product or service is delivered in support of the hospital’s strategic plan, and the functions according to the policies, procedures, philosophy, goals and objectives.
This position is mainly 90-100% clinical and provides oversights for off- shift or off- site.
Subject Matter Expert. Assists with onboarding and training of new hires. Provides coaching to Echocardiography staff.
Serves as ambassador of the H3W leadership behaviors. Provides training to new employees or for new tasks to existing employees; serves as resource to colleagues on issues/questions and provides guidance; coaches for improved performance by providing appropriate feedback; maintains a positive environment. Provides appropriate feedback to Supervisor regarding any concern/issues that may arise. Provides coaching and training to echocardiography staff. Assists with onboarding and training of new echocardiography staff. Serves as the lead to activate emergency staffing, planning or procedures as needed.
Assist with quality control, data collection and quality assurance for regulatory compliance and accreditation.
Prepares patient. Explain procedures to patients and addresses their concerns in a professional and therapeutic manner.
Perform echocardiograms according to the department policies and procedures for standard transthoracic imaging and for special conditions including valvular disease, 3D echocardiography, and strain imaging.
Perform all routine department procedures, including structural heart echo, transesophageal echo, and exercise and pharmacologic stress echo.
When present, recognizes true cardiac emergencies, including cardiac tamponade, aortic dissection, and acute valvular regurgitation. Uses contrast for appropriate indications.
Participates in the activities required to maintain departmental IAC certification assuming the lead for the formulation of continuous quality and performance improvement plans, updated department procedures, physician and staff information, and competencies for St. Vincent’s Medical Center.
Observes and monitors signs and symptoms, general behavior, general physical response to determine whether abnormal characteristics are exhibited.
Notifies appropriate licensed personnel when abnormalities are observed and when issues with patients arise.
Demonstrates special competence in difficult or unusual cases.
Obtains all relevant patient information, ensuring reason for exam is concordant with exam request in order to perform the appropriate exam, on the correct patient, to procure an accurate diagnosis.
Maintain records of all procedures performed and provides documentation to the interpreting Cardiologist.
Accurately inputs data into electronic health record to track procedure and supply charges and other relevant information.
Accurately documents charting and charging.
Appropriately maintains exam rooms, supplies and equipment according to performance standards.
Utilizing safety, environmental, and infection control standards, appropriately maintains area supplies and reports equipment malfunctions. Performs and documents quality assurance testing on equipment according to established protocols to maintain high performance of the system. Transports patients as necessary.
When necessary, provides clinical supervision and instruction to students by maintaining an understanding of policies, procedures and the clinical competency process in order to evaluate student growth and competence in performing echocardiography procedures.
Perform other related duties as required
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION:
Must maintain registration (RDCS) with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or provide proof to become registered or RCS by CCI.
Graduate of an accredited Echocardiography program required. Associates Degree in Health Related Field required/Bachelor’s preferred.
Min 10 years’ experience in Echocardiography required.
Echocardiography experience in a hospital setting preferred.
Previous lead/supervisory experience preferred
