Founded in 1822, the Institute of Living (IOL) was one of the first mental health centers in the United States and was the first hospital of any kind in Connecticut. Now a division of Hartford Hospital, it remains one of America’s leading not for profit centers offering the full continuum of care across the spectrum of behavioral health services, with a strong commitment to patient care across the lifespan. IOL’s many highly specialized programs, along with its dedicated, experienced, and skilled clinicians, provide patients and their families with the highest quality of personalized care for both mental health and substance use recovery services.
