Reporting to System Manager of Hazardous Materials & Environmental Compliance, provide exceptional services in the fields of industrial hygiene, occupational safety and environmental remediation activities for a large healthcare institution with 7,000+ colleagues, multiple campuses and complex aged buildings and infrastructure.
Provide asbestos, lead, exposure assessment and indoor air quality services. Conduct/coordinate industrial hygiene surveys and hazardous building material surveys for hazardous chemicals, waste anesthetic gases, noise, indoor air quality, mold, asbestos, lead, PCB’s. Coordinate asbestos abatement and/or lead paint remediation activities to support planned facility repair/maintenance activities, large and small construction and renovation projects. Respond to emergency abatements, chemical spills and releases as needed. As Designated Person (DP), manage eight+ buildings of a private K-12 special education school system with compliance to AHERA, DPH regulations and Radon Program. Conduct and oversee outside contractor orientation/safety program. Oversee OSHA programs such as Hazcom, Hearing Conservation, PPE, and Respiratory Protection. Maintain safety data sheet (SDS) database. Oversee environmental compliance programs such as RCRA, UW, SPCC, UST.
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, environmental health , health physics, chemistry, biology, toxicology, environmental engineering or related science field or demonstrated equivalent
7-10+ years of experience in environmental, health and occupational safety programs
Current AHERA Connecticut certified asbestos building inspector / Licensed Asbestos Consultant / Licensed Asbestos Project Designer or ability to obtain in 6 months from hire
Solid background in Industrial Hygiene concepts, principles, and practices to evaluate physical and chemical hazards such as noise, chemical exposures, ventilation
Solid understanding of environmental, health and safety programs such as RCRA, SPCC, UST, CWA, CAA, DOT-HMR, IATA, OSHA etc.
Ability to utilize and calibrate industrial hygiene measurement equipment such as personal sampling pumps, indoor air quality meters, infrared analyzers, and moisture meters to evaluate environment stresses
Strong leadership skills, ability to develop and mentor staff, and build teams
Exceptional communication skills especially as pertains to client interactions
Ability to make independent judgment and discretion in data analysis and problem resolution
Participate in large, specialized, complex construction, renovation and demolition projects / multiple projects
Read/comprehend architectural blue prints and drawings
Have or the ability to obtain professional certifications such as CHMM, CHSP, CIH within 1 year of hire
Competency with computer software applications, report writing
Knowledge of healthcare facilities and The Join Commission (TJC) accreditation specifications and requirements preferred.
