Job Shift: Shift 2
Shift Details: Shift is 12p-830p Monday-Friday, with possibility of working weekends and holidays. Lab experience is preferred.

For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. JOB SUMMARY
The Laboratory Associate (LA) supports the functions of the clinical laboratory departments. The LA is responsible for performing a wide range of support functions, including client service/support, reference testing pre-analytical and post-analytical processing, Quality Management data processing and reports, clerical supply inventory control and management, LIS support functions for the laboratory, specimen storage and retrieval, specimen report processing (printing, mailing, faxing), accessioning/registration functions, and other supportive functions as required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
High School diploma is required.


Experience: No previous experience is required.


License and Certification: None required.


PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Education:
High School diploma; current enrollment in an accredited certificate-level, Associates degree/Bachelor’s degree-level program is preferred, but not required.


Experience: One (1) years previous experience in customer service, medical assistant, or laboratory support is preferred.


License and Certification: None required.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information. Basic computer skills (including opening/reading email, basic internet use).
May be required to learn and/or be proficient in multiple department specific functions, systems and/or processes. Ability to work collaboratively with all departments. Ability to prioritize daily work assignments. Ability to handle multiple priorities.


PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING
Work is performed in accordance with instructions and procedures. Requires the ability to exercise discretion and use good judgment to perform duties promptly and consistently with little direction. Resolves problems with minimal direction. Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
