For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. We deliver and coordinate a continuum of high-quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of our communities.
JOB SUMMARY
Performs a variety of routine and complex diagnostic tests on blood and body fluids as prescribed by healthcare providers. All procedures are performed according to department procedures and protocols and within at least two lab sections. Requires organizational skills for processing large volumes of tests. Utilizes knowledge of medical theories and procedures as required within the Laboratory. Ability to work in a computerized Laboratory.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Associates Degree in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences.
Experience: One (1) to two (2) years experience.
License and Certification: Obtain MLT (ASCP) or equivalent certification within twelve (12) months of date of hire.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Education: Associates Degree in Medical Technology.
Experience: Three (3) or more years experience.
License and Certification: MLT (ASCP) or equivalent upon hire.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information. Basic computer skills (including opening/reading email, basic internet use).
