Are you ready to start your RN career, but need experience to reach your goal of working in an Emergency Department? Windham Hospital offers RN employment, in conjunction with a Nurse Resident program, three times a year with start dates in February, July and October. Our program is designed for novice and graduate nurses to bridge the gap between nursing school training and actual nursing practice in an acute-care setting.
The Windham Nurse Residency is a partnership which builds on previous academic knowledge by providing in-depth learning through clinical immersion, simulation training, and classroom-style activities while orienting to your RN position.
Nurse Residents are hired directly to a specialty area where they will receive focused clinical education. The areas offered are based on the needs of the hospital. In addition to clinical immersion on the units, Nurse Residents meet weekly in a classroom format to share experiences and receive additional education and training. Professional development opportunities, seminars, simulations, and monthly check-in meetings continue through the first year of employment.
Applications are currently being accepted for October 25, 2021 start date with interviews beginning in August.
Admission to the Windham Nurse Residency Program is highly competitive with a limited number of positions available.

Education: Graduate of a school of nursing, BSN preferred
Experience: New RN Graduate or less than one year experience in an acute care setting as an RN. Previous acute care experience or experience in another health field preferred.
License and Certification:
• Active State of CT RN license OR new graduates may start under Graduate Nurse status (per the State of CT DPH guidelines) but MUST successfully complete first NCLEX testing no later than 60 days from nurse resident program start date or 90 days from your graduation date, whichever occurs first.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire.
• Ability to obtain and maintain department specific certifications.
By completing the Nurse Residency Program, newly-licensed nurses are able to competently and safely manage a full patient assignment with confidence, and will be well-positioned to become future leaders in the nursing profession.
