The Hospital of Central Connecticut is an acute-care community teaching hospital, we provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services in general medicine and surgery, as well as a wide variety of specialties. Staffed by our talented team of leading professionals, The Hospital of Central Connecticut provides a wide array of services throughout the region, caring for patients from birth through the end of life.

Works in conjunction with the department supervisor to organize, oversee and ensure the daily operation of the Phlebotomy / Specimen Processing sections of the laboratory.


  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following hospital/laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Provides triaging for incoming or outgoing laboratory specimens for example but not limited to Stemi, Stroke, Stats and all Send out samples.
  • Assesses specimen integrity for acceptability, resolves problems, and follows procedures for specimen rejection if required.
  • Recognizes problems with specimen identification and labeling errors and performs Real Time Quality Management investigations if required.
  • Adheres to all lab/hospital/organizational policies related to safety, infection prevention and professional behavior.
  • Accurately measures or estimates sample volumes when required (24 hour urine specimens).
  • Responds to telephone requests/ inquiries following established hospital policies.
  • Conducts research on all referral laboratory specimens and sends specimens out according to Laboratory procedures. This includes, but is not limited to, centrifuging or processing specimens, packaging specimens, properly storing specimens for transport, creating tracking and transit lists and accurately ordering tests.
  • Handles stat/critical results and appropriate documentation/verification in accordance with department policy for all referred testing.
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned
