For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. We deliver and coordinate a continuum of high-quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of our communities.


The Colleague Health Supervisor will administer and coordinate the activities of the Colleague Health department to ensure responsive clinical support for colleagues in accordance with local and system-wide policies and procedures. Responsible for supervising clinicians providing direct care to HHC colleagues at Backus Hospital, Windham Hospital and Hartford HealthCare at Home. Provides consultative and direct support for management of medical clearance of new hires, workers’ compensation case management, and compliance with regulatory statutes. Ensures regulatory compliance with OSHA Standards, CDC Guidelines, and applicable federal/state guidance for healthcare workers. Implements worker disease and injury prevention and compliance programs, including TB surveillance, blood borne pathogens, hearing conservation, and environmental safety.


Education: Diploma or certificate in nursing; BSN preferred


  • Prior supervisory experience in an Occupational Health background.

  • Three to five years RN experience.

  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and CDC guidelines.

  • Knowledge of infectious disease and worker safety program requirements for a healthcare setting.

Licensure, Certification, Registration: CT RN License and BLS certification required. CCM, COHN-S DOT BAT training preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of MS Office suite

  •  Organizational skills and ability to prioritize

  •  Ability to work independently

  •  Experience in preparation of reports, graphs and spreadsheets
