Hartford Hospital is one of the largest and most respected teaching hospitals in New England. The Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center which provides cutting edge treatment to its patients. This is made possible by being home to the largest robotic surgery center in the Northeast and the Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation (CESI), one of the most-advanced medical simulation training centers in the world. When hospitals cannot provide the advanced care, expertise and new treatment options their patients require, they turn to Hartford Hospital.
Advanced Practitioner Role Scope
Responsible for utilizing NEWS/epic deterioration index to identify those pts on the floors that require early intervention; round on those patients, touch base with nursing and primary team as indicated.
Support primary team/nursing with adjusting care plan when certain thresholds are met on NEWS or epic index
Serves as a resource in the discussion with primary team, intervention/management for those patients found to be at risk for deterioration.
Triages urgency of care escalation and works with the CLC to prioritize which patients need step down and ICU beds most urgently
Serves as the Liaison with critical care intensivist when need urgent input/intervention is indicated.
Field escalation of care calls from floor teams and nursing staff for step down or ICU level of care
Helps to manage patients on floor that need a higher level of care until bed becomes available.
Attends floor RRTs if able
Educates floor teams around appropriate utilization for step down and ICU beds; creates standardization around this process.
Focuses on Quality structure by reviewing cases not transferred that have an adverse event; cases that transferred urgently that have deteriorated in ICU or SD. Makes recommendations such as earlier interventions, etc.
Full Time: 40 Hours per week with weekend, night, and call coverage

Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner Master’s program preferred
Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, as a Physician Assistant / Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of Connecticut
Certification or eligible to be certified as a Physician Assistant or National Board Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse through AACN or ANCC.
AGACNP Board Certification as an acute care nurse practitioner and / or critical care AP experience.
Ten (10) years’ advanced practice experience in acute care or in specialty area.
Minimum 5 years of supervising Advanced Practitioners.
