Shift Details: The position is for a community woman who is responsible to encourage women to breastfeeding. She is responsible for positive role-modeling providing information & knowledgeable breastfeeding support.

Job Summary:

This position employs a community woman who is responsible to encourage and help women to initiate and continue breastfeeding. She is responsible for positive role-modeling, providing information, encouragement and knowledgeable support and assistance to pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers receiving services from Women's Ambulatory Health Services at Hartford Hospital. Counselors will be part of a program that is working in partnership with the Hispanic Health Council. Reports to Program Coordinator. 



  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred to perform necessary functions in client work and documentation.
  • Prior experience breastfeeding a child, 4-6 months exclusive breastfeeding preferred.
  • Enthusiasm about breastfeeding and community health work, commitment to breastfeeding support.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • English/Spanish preferred.

Sensitivity about cultural diversity and socio-economic issues affecting low-income women.
