For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. We deliver and coordinate a continuum of high-quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of our communities.
Accessions and prepares all tissue specimens submitted to the Laboratory according to department procedures and protocol. Utilizes standard histologic techniques to produce, stain, and coverslip slides in preparation for them to be reviewed by a Pathologist. Performs all Q.C.and maintenance procedures as outlined in departmental policies and procedures.
Education: Bachelor’s degree with a combination of 30 semester hours in biology and chemistry (www.ascp.org/board-of-certification)
Experience: Zero (0) to six (6) months experience
License and Certification: Obtain HTL (ASCP) or equivalent certification within one year of date of hire.
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Histotechnologist program.
Experience: One (1) + years clinical Histotechnology experience.
License and Certification: HTL (ASCP) certification upon hire.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information. Basic computer skills (including opening/reading email, basic internet use).
