For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. We deliver and coordinate a continuum of high-quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of our communities.

 

JOB SUMMARY
Protects life and property of all persons on Hospital premises and patrols hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft and vandalism. Secures, unlocks and protects hospital buildings. Responds to security needs of hospital personnel.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.


Experience: One (1) year experience in public safety field required. Two (2) to five (5) years security or related experience required preferred.


License and Certification: Current State of Connecticut Certification as a Public Safety Officer or be able to obtain certification within 90 days of hire. Valid driver's license with a clean record. Successful completion of Fitness for duty test. Successful completion of Management of Aggressive Behavior, Handcuffing, Oleoresin Capsicum, First Aid, CPR-AED certifications required and as a condition of continued employment.

  
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information. Basic computer skills (including opening/reading email, basic internet use).

PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING
Work is performed in accordance with instructions and procedures, but Incumbents must organize the work and set priorities. Requires the ability to exercise discretion and use good judgment to perform duties promptly and consistently with little direction.
