The Prior Authorization Services Manager is responsible for oversight and administering, planning, coordinating, directing all clerical and administrative office activities for the prior authorization staff within the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute. Responsibilities include but, are not limited to the following:


  • Ensures the completion of all prior authorization tasks in order to ensure patient access and reimbursement for physician and clinical services
  • Develops and supervises staff for project completion.
  • Oversees recruiting and selection, training, employee development, mentoring, counseling and performance evaluations.
  • Ensures all prior authorization tasks are assigned to the appropriate staff and completed accurately and within established standards and timeframes.
  • Establishes department goals in regards to recovery, production, and turnaround time.
  • Ensures that staff have the most up-to-date information to provide accurate answers to patients and front line staff regarding patient registration process updates and insurance benefit, eligibility, and specific payer authorization information.
  • Uses a quality assessment checklist to ensure all patient interactions are handled using HHC values and behaviors and patients are provided accurate information, according to department protocols.
  • Works with various clinic staff and agencies to ensure efforts are coordinated and high quality care is provided.
  • Participates in fiscal viability by evaluating processes and looking at staffing.
  • Review, develop, and recommend new policies and procedures to enhance effectiveness of prior authorization processes. 


• Bachelor’s Degree Strongly preferred

Work Experience:
• 5 years Prior Authorization specific to oncology

•2 years management or supervisory experience within an a medical office setting
