For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. We deliver and coordinate a continuum of high-quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of our communities.
Performs a variety of routine and complex diagnostic tests on blood and body fluids as prescribed by healthcare providers. All procedures are performed according to department procedures and protocols and within at least two (2) lab sections. Requires capable organizing skills for processing large volumes of tests. Utilizes knowledge of medical theories and procedures as required within the Laboratory. Ability to work in a computerized Laboratory.
• Bachelor degree in Medical Technology OR
• Bachelor degree in related science that includes a medical lab internship required for certification OR
• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology
• MT/MLS/MLT (ASCP) or equivalent certification or currently eligible for certification required
• One (1) year of hospital clinical lab experience; three (3) or more years preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information. Basic computer skills (including opening/reading email, basic internet use).
Works efficiently and organizes time appropriately. The ability to prioritize daily work assignments. Computer knowledge to order to enter/retrieve data. Able to assist in the implementation of processes/procedures to enhance laboratory services.

Requires high level of analytical ability in order to gather, analyze and interpret information from various sources.
