Job Description

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and/or Physician, the Medical Assistant performs delegated functions as a member of the patient care team to provide a variety of multi-skilled services. These activities contribute to meeting the health care, safety and comfort needs of patients, and are performed in accordance with all existing regulatory, state and company standards, policies and procedures. Duties to include; room patients, phlebotomy, spirometry, vitals, lab, EMR.

  • Seeking experienced detail-oriented technician with great people skills and a team player.  The ideal candidate will assist provider by taking patient’s medical and ocular history with accurate documentation in patient’s electronic medical record.  They will perform preliminary testing including visual acuity assessment, pupil evaluation, checking confrontational visual fields, testing of color vision, stereopsis, ocular motility testing and tonometry.  Candidate should be able to complete applanation tonometry.
  • Will administer ocular medications for pupil dilation as needed.
  • Should be able to perform specialized preliminary testing including autorefractions and utilization of lensometer.  Perform diagnostic testing in including automated visual fields, Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT), fundus photography, and B scan ultrasound. 
  • Able to triage calls to assist with patient scheduling and addressing patient’s questions.  Will maintain clean exam rooms and keep track of office supplies and inventory.
  • Should be able to communicate professionally and effectively with all staff. 

Qualifications

High School graduate or equivalent preferred.

Certified ophthalmology technician (COT) or experienced certified ophthalmology assistant (COA)

Diploma from an accredited Medical Assistant program and/or Medical Assistant Certification required (CMA,CCMA, RMA ). (An active CNA, EMT, Paramedic or Medic Certification may also be considered)
1 Year of Medical office experience preferred.

Epic Experience preferred.

Orthoptist experience preferred.

Must possess effective communication skills. Competency in basic medical assisting skills. Including, rooming patients, assisting provider with exams, performing hearing tests, answering phones, scheduling appointments and surgeries. Strong working knowledge of medical terminology. Strong computer skills including solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office software. Experience with medical software preferred. Positive, customer-focused approach, with commitment to providing excellent patient care. Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organization skills and attention to detail
