For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. We deliver and coordinate a continuum of high-quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of our communities.
Job Summary
Accessions and prepares all tissue specimens submitted to the Laboratory according to department procedures and protocol. Utilizes standard histologic techniques to produce, stain, and coverlip slides in preparation for review by a Pathologist. Performs all Q.C. as outlined in department procedures and protocol.
Qualifications
Education: Associates degree or completion of an accredited histologic technician program or high school graduate with equivalent combination of education and experience. Associates degree in Histology preferred.
Experience: Zero (0) to six (6) months Histology experience. One (1) year of Histology experience preferred.
License and Certification: Obtain HT (ASCP) or equivalent certification within one (1) year of date of hire. HT (ASCP) or equivalent certification upon hire preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information. Basic computer skills (including opening/reading email, basic internet use). Basic computer knowledge in order to enter/retrieve data.
