The Institute of Living, one of the first mental health centers in the U.S., remains one of America’s leading not-for-profit centers for patient care, research and education in the fields of behavioral, psychiatric and addiction disorder. Through our dedicated, experienced and skilled clinicians, we provide patients and their families with the highest quality of personalized care. Programs are offered for children, adolescents and adults struggling with mental illness as well as offering services specializing in Anxiety, Eating Disorders, and Geriatric Services.

Program Summery:

Special education programs began in 1968, providing therapeutic and educational experiences to students in the Hartford and Central Connecticut area. Today, The Webb Schools provide a comprehensive array of services to public schools, ranging from in-district consultations to student enrollments at one of our state-approved, special education schools located in Hartford and Cheshire. Our mission is to provide individually tailored programs for students in the least restrictive environment. We also provide consultation and education concerning mental health issues in schools to parents, communities, and school districts.

Job Summary:

The Psychologist at the Grace Webb School is part of an inter-disciplinary team working to help children with mental health issues make academic, social, and emotional progress.  Clinical duties include conducting psychological evaluations, carrying a caseload of students for school-based individual psychotherapy, co-leading school-based group psychotherapy, responding to behavioral crises, and performing risk assessments as needed.  Psychological evaluations include cognitive, social-emotional, behavioral and personality testing.  The psychologist is responsible for consulting with team members, developing and implementing individual education plan (IEP) clinical goals, writing functional behavioral assessments (FBA) and behavior intervention plans (BIP), and attending Planning Placement Team and staff meetings.  Communicating with parents/guardians, and coordinating treatment with outside providers is also an important part of the job.  A strong candidate will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work as a member of multidisciplinary team.  Good judgment in pressured situations, effective leadership and consultation skills, and a willingness to be flexible and self-reflective are preferred qualities.  


• Doctorate of Philosophy in Psychology (PhD.) or Doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D.) from an APA accredited institution with completion of APA approved internship
• Completion of at leat one year post internship supervisory experience with childern and adolescents
• Licensed to practice Psychology in the State of Connecticut.
• Experience working with children and adolescents with a range of mental health disorders and familiarity with special education is strongly preferred
