The Hospital of Central Connecticut is an acute-care community teaching hospital, we provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services in general medicine and surgery, as well as a wide variety of specialties. Under the direction and general supervision of the Clinical Manager, the Registered Nurse (RN) provides nursing care in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, policies and procedures of the hospital and as directed by the medical staff. The Registered Nurse (RN) who through knowledge and ability utilizes the nursing process to develop a plan of care which includes standards of practice to meet the physical, emotional spiritual, cultural and educational needs of the patient and family. Incorporates the needs and behaviors of patient's age group in planning and providing care.
Organizes and administers individualized, professional patient care to patients within Diagnostic Radiology, CT, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound and the Radiology patient holding area. Provides nursing care as directed by medical staff and in accordance with the objectives, policies, procedures and protocols of the Hospital. Maintains the standards of nursing care as established. Incorporates the needs and behavior of the patient’s specific age group in planning and providing care. Participates in quality improvement activities.
Performs a basic assessment for all assigned patients.
Obtains verbal reports from pertinent health care team members, patient and/or family.
Shares appropriate information with other health team members and incorporate relevant data obtained into patient care plan.
Observes signs and symptoms and patient responses to care on an on-going basis.
Incorporates protocols, policies, procedures, and physician’s orders into plan of care.
Adapts protocols, procedures and nursing actions based on individual patient needs.
Plans appropriate actions to minimize/prevent problems.
Performs interventional procedures in CT Scan that require moderate sedation.
Plans for appropriate utilization of resources.
Demonstrates competence in nursing skills.
Performs nursing actions consistent with policies, procedures and protocols.
Implements individualized safety measures based on each assigned patient’s level of risk.
Completes reporting forms as appropriate, e.g., incident report, needle stick form, problem identification form.
Recognizes changes in patient status and intervenes to prevent or minimize emergency situations.
Demonstrates knowledge of emergency equipment consistent with area of practice.
Executes appropriate emergency measures in a timely manner.
Makes decisions during an emergency or stressful situation which reflects sound judgment and appropriate use of nursing staff.
Initiates discharges planning as appropriate.
Initiates referrals to the appropriate health care providers to meet patient care needs.
Modifies daily routines and schedules based on priority of needs.
Documents in the patient record according to Radiology departmental policies, protocols and guidelines.
Participates in quality improvement activities.
Performs within the scope of nursing practice as defined by legal parameters and hospital standards, policies and procedures.
Maintains confidentiality by communicating patient/family information only to health care workers involved in the care of the patient.
Maintains effective interpersonal relationships with patients, families, co-workers and other health care team members.
Attends and documents educational programs that are relevant to patient care responsibilities.
Works collaboratively with Radiologists, Technologist, Clerical Staff and Mercury Services while providing patient care services.
Provides nursing support for all invasive Radiology procedures as requested.
Monitors the Radiology patient holding area.
Admits and discharges patients from Radiology as necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Current RN license in state of Connecticut. 3-5 years of acute care nursing experience required
ACLS certification required
Previous experience in Critical Care, Emergency Department, PACU or Radiology nursing highly preferred.
