For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. We deliver and coordinate a continuum of high-quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of our communities.
Performs a variety of confidential and complex clinical and office functions to include, but not limited to vital signs, registration prior authorizations and scheduling.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associates degree preferred.
Experience: Two (2) years of outpatient or physician office clinic-related experience preferred.
License and Certification: Health Assistant Certification preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information. Basic computer skills (including opening/reading email, basic internet use).
Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with departments, employees, physicians and managers. Works efficiently and organizes time appropriately. Must be organized, flexible and a team player. Working knowledge of windows based software to include word processing.
PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING
Work is performed in accordance with instructions and procedures. Requires the ability to exercise discretion and use good judgment to perform duties promptly and consistently with little direction. Requires the ability to recognize problem situations and refer them to the appropriate staff member. Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
