Job Summary:


Operates nuclear detection and imaging equipment and prepares radiopharmaceuticals for Nuclear Radiologic studies by following professional and departmental protocols to provide the physician diagnostic images to identify and/or plan appropriate treatment for the patient's condition. Reports to: Clinical Nuclear Medical Supervisor.


 

Job Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Performs Nuclear Medicine exams as described in the procedure/protocol manual. Prepares and administers radioactive agents by adhering to established procedures for preparation of kits and IV injection of agents to ensure accurate diagnostic testing/imaging.

 

  • Operates all relevant Nuclear Medicine and CT equipment and computer systems, including PET/CT and SPECT/CT, and PACs by following professional, hospital, and departmental protocols.

 

  • Assesses the appropriateness of requested exams by using  pre-established guidelines for exam ordering to ensure that the exam is performed accurately the first time; interviews patient for medical history; prepares and positions patients for exam; monitors patients while scanning; reviews images for quality and abnormalities; injects and images patients with proper isotopes. Adheres to HIPPA, OSHA and NRC guidelines regarding radiation protection, patient protection and record keeping; completes documentation and file notification. Provides excellent care and service to patients. Explains exams, medications, radiation safety, positioning, etc. to patients. Exhibits proficient IV skills. 

 

  • Stocks supplies; maintains cleanliness of scan rooms. Transports patients if needed. Must be able to lift, push or pull patients with assistance. 

 

  • Performs daily, weekly and quarterly quality control tests on nuclear medicine and CT hybrid imaging equipment, Hot Lab equipment and radiopharmaceuticals by checking equipment performance and quality of agents administered in accordance with department standards to ensure the integrity of the system and patient safety.

 

  • Adheres to standards for radiation safety and for appropriate waste separation and disposal of radioactive agents by performing specific tasks mandated by the NRC in order to maintain compliance with NRC licenser regulations.

 

  • Demonstrates competencies in nuclear medicine and hybrid PET/CT and SPEC/CT imaging procedures, including knowledge and behaviors, to meet age-specific patient needs.

 

  • Ensures a professional attitude and wears mandatory uniform and badges at all times. 

 

  • Works effectively as a team member within the department and with other units to provide quality service through communication, cooperation, and collaboration.

 

  • Perform daily quality control on hybrid nuclear medicine and CT equipment, and confirm the system is within acceptable limitation for operation.

 

  • Properly position patients for hybrid nuclear medicine and CT scans.

 

  • Adjust scanning protocols for nuclear medicine and CT hybrid equipment as necessary per patient.

 

 


Qualifications

  • Graduate of approved program for Nuclear Medicine Technologist
  • Has done all clinical competency’s, classroom training and passed a certification board (CNMT (NMTCB)(CT), R.T.(N)(CT)(ARRT),or RTRCT) allowing you to operate a hybrid nuclear medicine system.
  • Nuclear Medicine and PET/ CT, and SPECT/CT tech
  • 1-2 years Nuclear Tech, PET/ CT, and SPECT/CT tech preferred
