The Assistant Radiation Safety Officer assists the HHC Radiation Safety Officer in support of the Radiation Protection Programs throughout Hartford Healthcare Hospital Facilities. Responsibilities for this position include but, are not limited to the following:

  • With HHC Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) collaboration, insure proper implementation of radiation protection programs throughout the HHC medical facilities, to include support and guidance for program compliance with State mandated regulatory requirements and appropriate Accreditation requirements for X-Ray equipment use and the HHC ALARA program.
  • With HHC RSO collaboration, provide radiation safety program support for training in X-Ray safety and equipment use.
  • Occupational Monitoring Programs:
    • Provide occupational dosimetry program coordination/support as assigned
    • Review and summarize for report, occupational radiation monitoring / ALARA program data for report to the HHC RSO.
  • Imaging Department(s) Dose metric Review Program:
    • Review and summarize for report, patient dose metrics specific to CT imaging and Fluoroscopy imaging. Complete a department specific review of metric data.
  • Radiation Safety Program Policies and Procedures:
    • With HHC RSO collaboration, maintain and audit HHC policies and procedures to implement program consistency throughout the HHC radiation safety programs.
  • Review for report, records and data bases used to assure compliance with state and federal regulations. (e.g. SECTRA Dose, CDOS, and the Lead protective apparel database documentation systems, etc.)
  • Review and summarize for report, the RS Program(s) compliance with Image Gently and Image standards for imaging to document compliance with state regulatory ALARA imaging requirements.
  • Stay informed of state and federal regulations and guidelines relating to radiation health and X-Ray safety


High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associates Degree in Radiological Technology or Medical Imaging; Bachelor’s Degree preferred  

• 5+ years as an X Ray Technologist; Preferably 5 years in CT Imaging or 5 yers in Fluoroscopy Imaging

Licensure, Certification, Registration
Certification in Radiologic Technology (ARRT)
Active State of Connecticut Certification in Radiologic Technology
