Job Summary
We are seeking an in-patient Nurse Manager who desires to be part of a dedicated team providing comprehensive musculoskeletal care in a patient-centered environment where quality and safety are paramount and where clinical outcomes, cost-effectiveness, teaching and innovation drive our efforts, functioning within the framework for professional nursing practice, the Patient Unit Manager supports and assists the Director. This position has 24 hour accountability for managing resources (human, material and financial), to ensure quality, cost-effective delivery of patient services for specific patient populations, in a defined area across the continuum. This is accomplished by direct action, delegation, coaching and support of unit-based shared governance councils. Reports to Director of Service.

The Bone and Joint Institute cares for the patient population with bone, spine, trauma and joint disease. We are a major teaching hospital affiliated with the University Of Connecticut Medical School, serving the New England region where we perform over 3,000 Orthopedic surgeries per year. Our reputation for providing complex and innovative care to those in need is built on the foundation of excellence in patient care, teaching and research. We maintain the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the region, and operate the states only air ambulance system, LIFE STAR.



Qualifications

• Current Connecticut Registered Nurse license required.
• Bachelor's degree required.* Master's degree preferred. One degree must be in Nursing.
• Certification in nursing administration is required within 5 years of assuming position.
• Minimum 3 years relevant clinical experience.
• CPR certification preferred.
• Demonstrated progressive leadership skills.
• Strong written and verbal communications skills required.

*Exceptions to the educational requirement will be evaluated on an individual basis. For example, a strong candidate in the process of completing the educational requirement will be considered. Continued progress toward completion of the educational requirement within five years will be required.
