Summary:


Performs radiographic imaging procedures by positioning patients, operating diagnostic x-ray equipment and providing patient care during imaging exams to assist in diagnosis and treatment of the patient. Reports to Manager, Diagnostic Radiology.

Performs diagnostic imaging studies in the General, Portable and ED areas by positioning patients, manipulating radiographic equipment. Additionally, may be trained to perform fluoroscopy exams.

Reviews exams ordered for accurate clinical information, pertinent laboratory results and the patient's chart to ensure the correct procedure is performed and the proper patient preparation administered

Selects accurate exposure factors utilizing the assessment of patient age, size and pathology to produce technically superior images and assist the radiologist in making a diagnosis.

Minimizes radiation to the patient, self and others by practicing appropriate radiation protection techniques, restricting radiation field size, using patient and personnel shielding devices and utilizing low dose exposure factors. Adheres to radiation safety standards in compliance with regulatory agencies and hospital policies.

Effectively communicates with patients and their families to enhance cooperation, reduce anxieties and answer questions.
Observes patient condition at all times and reports unusual behavior/conditions to appropriate department or hospital resource.

Accurately inputs procedural information into electronic medical record, RIS and PACS to capture necessary information regarding exams, supply charges, resource allocations, radiation exposure as well as all relevant clinical information.

Performs exams utilizing DR, CR and Panorex. Accurately critique images for positioning and exposure accuracy and ensure transfer of all images into PACS .

Demonstrates competencies, including the knowledge and behaviors to meet age specific patient needs (e.g. Pediatrics, Adolescents, Geriatrics.) and cultural diversity,

Utilizes appropriate infection control procedures at all times, following hospital policies and procedures.

Provides clinical supervision and instruction to students by maintaining an understanding of policies, procedures and the clinical competency process in order to evaluate student growth and competence in performance of radiographic procedures.

Contributes to the diagnostic imaging team by participating in daily huddles and in additional projects and meetings as needed to maintain best practice standards and continuously improve department performance

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Radiography program.

ARRT credentialed Radiology Technologist.

Current State of Connecticut Radiographer License.

Maintains continuing education as required by ARRT

Displays excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Computer literate, with experience in the use of Digital and Computed Radiography systems

CPR validation within 3 months of hire. CPR validation then becomes an annual requirement.
