Summary:


Provides assistance and protection to patients, employees, visitors and property in and about the organization and affiliated entities to ensure safety and security of the premises. Reports to Security Manager.


Patrols the assigned areas of the hospital campus on foot or in a motorized vehicle in order to deter, discover and respond to potential security problems and fire safety hazards.

Protects and assists patients, employees and visitors by performing assigned security post duty to maintain order, deter criminal activity and respond to security situations.

Investigates, reports and/or documents criminal activity and security incidents according to departmental procedures in order to resolve security problems and ensure accurate records are maintained.

Works effectively as a team member within department and with customers to provide quality service to hospital units through communication, cooperation and collaboration.

Provides escort and courier services according to department procedure to ensure safety of persons and property.

Some but not all of these positions perform security and/or Lifestar dispatching in accordance with departmental procedure in order to assess legitimacy of request and timely dispatch of security personnel or Lifestar.

Effectively manages security incidents by performing or overseeing investigations, ensuring that appropriate action is taken and that reports are properly completed and filed, in order to provide leadership to Security Department personnel.

Administratively coordinates the operation of a shift by effectively assigning/ reassigning personnel, acting as security liaison within and outside of the hospital, etc., to ensure smooth functioning of the Security Department at all times.

Performs additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

High School diploma required or equivalent

Formal education in criminal justice or formal police training is preferred.

Valid CT Security Guard card.

Requires one to three years of experience as a police officer, corrections officer, or relevant security officer work is required.

Extensive course work in criminal justice may be substituted for work experience.

Requires excellent interpersonal skills with strong customer service orientation.

Must have good writing skills.


Must have good problem solving skills.
