For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. We deliver and coordinate a continuum of high-quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of our communities.

 

JOB SUMMARY
Prepares high quality and safe food for hospital patients, staff and visitors.

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent.


Experience: One (1) year experience in culinary field.


License and Certification: None.


PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Culinary school diploma preferred.


Experience: Three (3) years experience in culinary field preferred.


License and Certification: ServSafe certification preferred.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information. Basic computer skills (including opening/reading email, basic internet use).


Must be able to use basic arithmetic and be familiar with standard food weights and measures. Ability to manage time and meet deadlines in a hectic work environment. Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions. Must be organized, flexible and a team player. Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with departments, employees, and managers. Familiarity with food service equipment.


PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING
Work is performed in accordance with instructions and procedures. Requires the ability to recognize problem situations and refer them to the appropriate staff member. Requires the ability to take the appropriate action in response to changes, circumstances or problems.
