Job Description:

Provides holistic, quality and cost-effective nursing care for patients/families and/or others for a patient population within a unit, service or other primary area of practice with an awareness of the episode of care. Applies the nursing process within the context of the organization's Framework for Professional Practice. Functions as clinically competent. Delegates and supervises work appropriately. Reports to BJI OR Manager.

Responsibilities:

• Providing perioperative care to our musculoskeletal surgical patients
• Developing and implementing nursing care plans for surgical patients.
• Updating patient files and medical records.
• Assisting surgeons during surgical procedures (which may require selected candidates with an opportunity to scrub-into the procedure).

Qualifications

• Current CT RN License
• BSL certification required upon hire
• ASN applicants with previous OR nursing experience are invited to apply.
• Recent BSN graduates will be enrolled in a Periop 101 orientation if hired.
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Independent problem solving skills
• Excellent communications skills
• Previous OR nursing experience preferred
• CNOR a plus

Periop 101 Course Description:

The Perioperative 101 Course is a 6-8 month blended learning program for the novice nurse entering the Perioperative environment. It combines the AORN Core Curriculum evidence-based module study course with classroom didactics, OR clinical skills, and simulation labs. It incorporates OR observation and hands-on participation in all modalities of perioperative nursing skills. The program will enhance the nurse’s educational knowledge leading to the ability to practice independently at a foundation level in a perioperative position.
