For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. We deliver and coordinate a continuum of high-quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of our communities.
Job Summary
The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting venous and capillary blood specimens from patients in a safe and accurate manner according to established lab policies and practices. Demonstrates H3W behaviors with a focus on exceptional patient experience and quality outcomes.
Qualifications
Education: High School graduate or equivalent
Experience: Experience or training which will support minimum on-the-job training to perform the required duties. Keyboarding/data entry experience. One (1) year relevant work experience preferred.
Licensure, Certification, Registration: National Certification (NCCT or ASCP) or equivalent preferred.
Language Skills: Effective communication in English language both written and verbal. Secondary language preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements
• Knowledge of venipuncture techniques
• Excellent customer service skills with a professional attitude
• Good keyboarding skills with ability to learn various laboratory application and HHC computer systems
• Continuous improvement mindset
• Ability to handle different patient population including pediatric and geriatric
• Strong trouble shooting and problem solving skills
• Ability to operate required lab equipment including pneumatic tube
