Charlotte Hungerford Hospital is a 122-bed, general acute care community hospital located in Torrington, Connecticut, that serves as a regional health care resource for the 100,000 residents of Litchfield County and Northwest Connecticut.  CHH offers personalized attention from an expert team of caregivers and physicians that utilize advanced technology and clinical partnerships in a convenient, safe and comfortable patient environment.

 

POSITION SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

 

The work is performed under the general supervision of the Engineering Director/Manager and is evaluated by observation, inspection and efficiency. Tasks are performed to maintain hospital structures, equipment and utility systems.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

1. Responds to customer requests for emergency repairs and maintenance.
2. Performs minor repairs on electrical equipment, machinery and to the building and facility,also performs task related to but not limited to painting, plastering, carpentry and plumbing.
3. Communicates consistently with customers as to status of service requests and follow ups.
4. Conducts inspections of assigned areas to ensure safe and efficient operations.
5.  Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and systems following preventive maintenance          procedure policies. Documents completion of PM work and reports need for major repairs.
6. Responds to hospital code situations in an appropriate manner as indicated in departmental policies and procedures.
7. Ensures that work area is kept orderly, work space is clean and safe.
8. Attends meetings, educational programs and other training as required.
9. Displays conduct that supports the CHH Core Values and Service Excellence Standards.
10. Performs minor repairs on hospital vehicles, sanders, grounds keeping equipment and plows.
11. Ensures adequate levels of supplies, materials and equipment and advises when reordering is necessary.
12. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
13. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL REQUIREMENTS, AND DESIRED ATTRIBUTES

1. Troubleshooting maintenance problems utilizing a full scope of general maintenance knowledge.

2. Excellent customer service skills.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION

The job requires a high school graduate or trade school graduate.

 

EXPERIENCE

Demonstrated knowledge and 3-5 years’ experience in general and preventive facility maintenance.
