Job Description

The Cytotechnologist examines, screens, interprets, and correlates gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens by following protocols to assist in physician diagnosis and treatment.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

Performs microscopic examinations on gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens, interprets morphologic changes and correlates results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition in order to assist in appropriate diagnosis and treatment.


Assists physician in fine needle aspirations by determining adequacy of specimen and preparing slide to help physician determine diagnosis and subsequent treatment


Adheres to all Laboratory policies and procedures, including Compliance, HIPPA, CQI, OSHA, state licensing and accreditation guidelines. Complies with CAP proficiency requirements. Reviews policy and procedure manuals on an annual basis. 


Maintains productivity standards in agreement with CLIA caseload limits.

Records the slide interpretation results of each case examined or reviewed


For each 24 hour period records the number of slides examined or reviewed in all laboratories.


Records the number of hours spent examining slides in each 24 hr period

Qualifications

  • CT (ASCP) or eligible
  • Bachelor’s degree, AND successful completion of a CAAHEP accredited Cytotechnology program within the last five years. The education received from a CAAHEP accredited CT program is acceptable for a period of five years from the date of completion of that program.
