Job Summary:
Provides managerial, operational and technical oversight for Chemistry and Hematology of the clinical laboratory. Works closely with the Medical Director and the Director of Laboratory Services to formulate section activities, modify, and implement test procedures and policies, and maintain adherence to all regulatory (TJC, CAP, CLIA) regulations.  Acts as a laboratory resource for hospital staff (e.g. physicians, nursing, etc.).

 

  • Responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Laboratory at Backus Hospital.
  • Maintains quality of work within all laboratory sections by designing, instituting and monitoring department quality control programs in accordance with licensing and accrediting agencies.  Responsible for oversight of the quality management program in each section, including CAP proficiency surveys, maintenance of records, and quality assurance programs.
  • Responsible for selection, training, scheduling, daily direction, performance evaluations, mentoring, coaching, counseling and discipline of staff.   Shifts technical assignments as required to respond to workflow demands.
  • Makes recommendations to the Laboratory Director and the Medical Directors regarding changes in procedures, new tests, etc. Investigates and recommends new equipment or supplies to purchase for lab sections.  Ensures lab equipment functions properly, repair equipment within limits of capability and place service calls when appropriate.
  • Acts as a resource to physicians, hospital staff, patients and others to address questions related to test interpretations, procedures, unusual results, service complaints and other lab issues.
  • Assists the Laboratory Director in maintaining departmental compliance with all regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.
  • Initiates and actively participates in departmental projects; provides project assistance for the Laboratory Director on high-level (system or local) projects.
  • Moves forward the HHC System Balanced Scorecard Initiatives; actively participates in Lean Daily Management and Leader Standard Work; consistently models the H3W leadership behaviors

Qualifications

• Certified Clinical Medical Technologist (ASCP) credentialed from the American

  Society of Clinical Pathologists obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
• BA or BS: Medical Technology
• 5 years clinical lab, 3 years in section.
