Join a Vibrant, Expanding Thoracic Service Line in Connecticut!

 Role Scope:

Practice minimally invasive and robotic surgery in a community hospital setting-and practice complex cases at Hartford Hospital, an 867 bed academic/tertiary care medical center, one of the highest volume surgical hospitals in New England, and the charter member of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Alliance. Surgical cases and outpatient services will also be provided with Middlesex hospital.  This The Thoracic team culture is one centered on a commitment to excellence, with a collaborative yet autonomous environment. This is an opportunity to be the face of the practice and build relationships with patients, doctor referral networks, and assist top tier surgeons in the operating room.  This includes outpatient, inpatient, and operating room settings. The Monday through Friday schedule and potential for flexibility to four 10 hour shifts, with about one weekend on-call per month provides a great work-life balance. Physician Assistants on weekend call may be involved in assisting in the operating room and potentially inpatient rounding for emergent/urgent cases. Consultations and surgeries will be at Hartford Hospital, the Central region and Middlesex Hospital.

 

Hartford HealthCare’s Thoracic Surgery team is equipped with the latest techniques for dealing with benign and malignant conditions of the lung, chest wall, and esophagus. Minimally invasive techniques allow us to deal with lung cancer in a manner that maximizes patient comfort and minimizes hospital stays. SuperDimension and Monarch navigational bronchoscopy uses technology to pinpoint even small tumors deep in the lung. Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) allows us to sample lymph nodes in the center of the chest without the need for incisions. We are also committed to providing compassionate care for every stage of esophageal cancer. Working hand-in-hand with a multidisciplinary team, we are involved in formulating an individualized care plan for each patient. Furthermore, we are one of the few centers in the region with expertise in minimally-invasive esophagectomy (MIE), an advanced technique that permits us to remove esophageal cancers through small incisions.

Qualifications

Advanced Practitioner Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Master’s program
  • Licensed as a Physician Assistant in the state of Connecticut
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant
  • Cancer related surgical experience preferred
  • Experience with DaVinci Surgical platform preferred
  • Thoracic surgical experience a major plus
