Department Description:

 The Lab Information System team within HHC is focused on the implementation, maintenance, and support of all Laboratory applications utilized throughout our enterprise.  Applications which can be integrated with HHC's Epic EMR and those that are standalone applications.

 Position Summary:

Analysts for the application team work to design, build, configure & test application functions for our clinical lab client base.   This includes General Lab, Microbiology, Pathology, and Bloodbank.  Part of the role of the analyst would be to assist with managing projects through initiation to implementation.  Analysts continue to support applications on a daily basis performing required system checks, participating on afterhours on call, as well as supporting ongoing maintenance and upgrade planning of critical laboratory systems.  The analyst will complete in depth and precise documentation of application functionality as well as technical support items.  Attention to detail is a critical skill for this position. Team work is key as Ancillary application analysts work with representation from many areas of the organization.  Skills required and not limited to: Strong Analytical skills, Excellent written and verbal communication including effectively communicating technical problems and solutions to non-technical users and stakeholders, Project management skills for design and development, The ability to multi-task and effectively work to deadlines.  Prior laboratory workflow and LIS experience is a plus.  

 Position Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates the design, development, system configuration, implementation, and support of information systems for the organization.
  • Understands the operational issues within their application area well enough to represent their user’s needs.
  • Planning, development, training, implementation, and evaluation of application functionality.
  • Working with the team and key customers to ensure appropriate development, training, and implementation of application functionality.
  • Collaborates and consults with application director, project manager, and other team leaders to coordinate activities.
  • Assists in the development and documentation of internal policies and procedures that will be used in conjunction with the application.
  • Builds effective relationships with clinical and business partners through all the phases of the projects to support completing project's goals
  • Contributes in the preparation and execution of testing scripts and materials and performs unit, system, and integrated testing tasks.
  • Documents and maintains all required system design and build documents and configures system accordingly.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent knowledge and skills obtained through a combination of education, training, and experience in a Healthcare environment required.
  • Four years’ experience in clinical/business applications experience required.
  • Experience in clinical/business information system management in a HealthCare setting preferred
  • Clinical Technologist with in-depth application knowledge would be accepted.  Laboratory Technician with SunQuest or other LIS system knowledge
  • Epic Beaker Certified is a plus

The Application Analyst will exhibit the following organizational competencies:

  • Attends all mandatory education and training programs (including department specific) and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety and regulatory compliance as well as department safety and specific job-related hazards.
  • Attire is professional, neat, clean, and appropriate for the work environment, according to the HHC and/or Department Appearance Policy and a high standard of personal cleanliness is maintained.
  • Reports to work on time and meets acceptable standard for attendance, based upon the department attendance policy.
  • Communicates messages clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion and sound judgment.
  • Must be willing to learn new technologies and techniques.
  • Must be willing and able to come to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Travel to locations within Connecticut and surrounding States will be required.
