Job Summary:

Performs a variety of duties such as scraping, sanding, repairing walls and painting, varnishing and hanging wallcovering in an effort to maintain and upgrade the aesthetical values of the Hospital.


Job Responsibilities:

Performs the decorative application of paint and wall coverings.

Sands, primes and prepares wall surfaces for the application of wallpaper or paint.

Spreads joint compound and applies tape to new or damaged walls.

Applies wall covering in such a manner as to conform to hospital standards.

Applies paint to wall surfaces according to manufacturer’s specifications.

Selects pre-mixed paints or prepares from scratch paints to match specified colors.

Rigs staging, spreads cloth or canvas over floors or furniture to protect them and cleans area after painting as required.

Responds to requests for repair of damaged wall surfaces or as instructed by painter foreman.

Refinishes furniture to match specified colors.

Demonstrates ability to patch wallpaper and match paint surfaces as demonstrated by the quality of the job.

Assist with snow removal as needed.

Regularly performs preventative maintenance to repair damaged wall surfaces and refinishes hospital furniture.


Maintains commitment to personal growth and competency.


Contributes to the safe operation of the facility and Engineering Department.


Contributes to efficient operation of the department.


Contributes to the effective operation of the Hospital by demonstrating dependability in job performance.





  • High School Diploma, 2-4 Technical Training preferred.


  • Three (3) to Five (5) Years of institutional painter, Five (5) Healthcare Painter preferred.


  • Strong communication skills.


  • An empathic leader committed to relationship building living HHC leadership behaviors focused on execution.


  • Reading and Interpreting blueprints, sketches, building and fire codes, specifications and diagrams.
