The Oncology Nurse Educator is responsible for the assessment of educational needs and implementation of education directed toward the goal of clinical competence and cost effective patient care of the highest quality. The Nurse Educator utilizes the nursing process to develop, implement, and evaluate education for staff, patients, and the community. Serves as a resource and role model in the areas of clinical practice, patient advocacy, and nursing leadership. Responsibilities include but, are not limited to the following:

  • Coordination of entire Global Competency Development Process for the Nursing Departments of the Hartford  Region including nurses, PCA/MA, PA/Nurse Practitioners(APP)
  • Oversight of orientation plan for all Hartford out-patient regional new hires (schedules, biweekly evaluations, booking observation experiences). 
  • Develop and teach an outpatient infusion nurse orientation
  • Participate in the creation of a professional development ladder to support clinical and academic excellence
  • Participate in the development and revisions of oncology specific policies and partner with HHC Cancer Institute Quality Director to support quality and safety



 Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree required. One (1) degree must be in Nursing


Three (3) years recent clinical experience in focus area of Oncology, five (5) years preferred

License and Certification:

•Current Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut.

•Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) preferred
