Hartford HealthCare Rehabilitation Network is the premier rehabilitation provider in Connecticut, is known for its commitment to high quality, customer focused outcomes. There are 32 outpatient locations with a variety of specialists, ranging from oncology and women’s health to sports medicine.


Hartford HealthCare is seeking a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Advanced Practitioner to join a quickly growing PM&R team. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will work in an ambulatory setting and will provide acute and chronic pain specialty care with the cognizance or supervision of a physician. These include musculoskeletal, orthopedic, and spine diagnoses and management.


The Physician Assistant shall have the capability to:

  • Collect and record, in proper format, medical and social historical data appropriate to the patient's condition
  • Perform an orthopedic/spine physical examination and/or a pain focused examination
  • Responsible for examination of patients and formulation of differential diagnostic plans
  • Define and order required diagnostic testing, interpret exam findings and test results, and implement treatment plans
  • Direct the care provided by nurses and technicians in the clinic, and admit inpatients per local facility instructions, as necessary
  • Recognize more complicated cases, initiate treatment (if appropriate), and refer to a higher level of medical expertise for diagnosis and/or treatment
  • Plan and initiate proper treatment within defined privileges and the scope of practice of the facility
  • Communicate to other health personnel either orally or in writing the findings, diagnosis, and planned treatment regimen as well as answer any questions from the team and/or patients
  • Stabilize and manage a patient in a medical or surgical emergency and/or transfer to physician care
  • Maintain inpatient and outpatient medical records.
  • Perform clinic injections and other invasive procedures as directed by the supervising physician
  • Serve as a subspecialist consultant to other departments
  • Perform first assist duties in the operating room as necessary including closing, preoperative exams, postoperative discharge planning, and inpatient unit follow ups
  • Perform Peer to Peer authorizations in relation to patient care
  • Provides guidance and instruction in preventive musculoskeletal and spine health care to patients
  • Provide counseling in various areas such diet, wellness, and exercise programs
  • Perform other clinic related duties as required by supervising physicians or unit leadership

Schedule: Monday through Friday with no call!

Advanced Practitioner Qualifications  

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner Master’s program preferred
  • Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, as a Physician Assistant / Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of Connecticut
  • Certification or eligible to be certified as a Physician Assistant or National Board Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse through AACN or ANCC.   
  • PM&R experience preferred
