Position Summary:

Under the direction of the VP of Patient Care Services, the Director of Nursing will be responsible and accountable for leading inpatient care units that provide high quality, cost effective, on-time delivery of services to internal and/or external customers of the hospital.  Collaborate with numerous patient care providers to ensure efficient and clinically appropriate bed management.  

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Manages and directs activities that improve patient flow.  Working collaboratively with subordinate nurse managers, assesses patient flow, discusses staffing/scheduling, trouble shoots bed placement issues.  Facilitates communications among involved parties; resolve issues as they arise; improve processes as necessary.
  • Participates in cross functional/departmental efforts and committees; represents the department and the organization in the deliberation of issues and opportunities.
  • Oversees education and professional development initiatives by facilitating process improvement initiatives that align with the organization’s vision, mission, and values. 
  • Investigates, reviews, and recommends patient care processes according to evidence-based practice
  • Develops evaluative measures to determine effectiveness of current and proposed processes.
  • Develop performance plan for all direct reports.  Assist the nursing management team, developing performance goals and provide coaching, counseling and direction as necessary.  Supports and mentors nursing management team in the development of their leadership skills. Reviews and evaluates staff per hospital policy.
  • Collaborates with Risk management, Quality, Case Management, and Infectious disease Prevention to incorporate these disciplines and protocols into clinical operations consistent with a “Culture of Safety/Just Culture”.
  • Works collaboratively with Vice President on budget preparation and expense management.  Control Operating expenses in compliance with budget. Provide continuous analysis and reports on variations from established budgets 
  • Perform other related duties as required 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required- Master's in Nursing, Health Administration, Management or related discipline preferred. 
  • Experience
  • 7 - 10 years of clinical experience, of which 5 or more have been in a supervisory capacity.
  • Licensure, Certification, Registration
  • Current CT RN License
  • CPR Certification required
  • Must demonstrate a masterly level of knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures.
  • Strong business acumen. 
  • Demonstrated mentoring and coaching skills. 
  • Strong writing, presentation and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates the CHH core values and leadership behaviors.
