Natchaug Hospital is Eastern Connecticut’s leading provider for children, adolescents and adults with mental illness and substance abuse addictions. We offer a variety of programs including inpatient and outpatient behavioral health, residential treatment for court-involved teenage girls, older adult services, clinical day treatment schools and chemical dependency services. Through our multi-site network of care, we constantly strive to meet our mission in helping people find their way while educating and empowering individuals to participate in their own care and recovery.

Position Summary:

The Director will lead the School Programs, actively promoting a culture of excellence, accountability and reflects Natchaug Hospital’s core values. The Director will be responsible for managing the program, which includes budgeting, quality assurance, State Department of Education approval, curriculum development and supervision of all educational staff.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provides leadership and management for six school principals, including staff training and development, allocation of staffing resources, work flow management, performance monitoring, and proactive problem resolution in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Collaboratively works with school principals in the development and expansion of educational program services; helps to identify market opportunities and steers the process towards pursuit of market goals
  • Prepares the school budget. Monitors and manages the budget during the school year and addressing variances
  • As Chief Administrator of the school, maintains approval of all school sites under the jurisdiction of the State Department of Education
  • Establishes written educational policies and procedures for all the school sites. Oversees admissions, discharges and suspension of students at all the sites
  • Develops and communicates school calendars, tuition rates, and signs contracts as needed with the LEAs
  • Monitor risk indicators and take action to address risk management issues in a timely manner to ensure client, staff, and visitor safety, and to safeguard from adverse events

Qualifications

  • Masters in Educational Leadership is required
  • Intermediate Administrator and Supervisor (092), State Department of Education licensure required
  • Comprehensive Special Ed (065) or related service, State Department of Education licensure required
  • Five plus years of Special Education teaching or related services is required
  • Two plus years of educational administrative experience, including Department Head, Coordinator or Supervisor is required
  • Ability to leverage the technical expertise of internal and external resources while managing competing demands
  • Visible leader with excellent interpersonal communication skills who relates well with all levels of the organization
  • A creative, forward thinking leader with the proven ability to engage, coach and mentor direct reports, colleagues and other key stakeholders
