St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport has more than 3,200 employees. It includes a 473-bed community teaching hospital, a 76-bed inpatient psychiatric facility in Westport, a large multispecialty provider group, and special needs services for adults and children. JOB SUMMARY
Under the leadership of the Director of Public Safety, the Public Safety Supervisor oversees the performance of the frontline Public Safety Staff at Westport, and as necessary, SVMC Main Campus. The supervisor provides guidance, feedback, and inspection of public safety officers’ performance on posts and ensures adequate rounding is being done in all client areas. In addition, this position ensures officers are compliant with department policy, including general appearance and punctuality. This position trains staff and also reviews post orders with all new hires and incumbent public safety officer on an ongoing, continuous basis.
This position is also responsible for
overseeing documentation is completed when a public safety officer response is required or requested
assisting with training officers on managing all aspects of the patient experience process related to processing patient valuables and understanding the scanning/detecting contraband of clients and visitors
assisting with visitor management throughput as needed and serving as the lead scheduler of public safety staffing for the Westport site, ensuring all public safety staff remain compliant in restraints training and other de-escalation & safety trainings as required
Developing a working proficiency of the DPS Control Center of St Vincent’s Medical Center
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs security officer duties as needed and assist with all security related issues, including responding to emergency calls for service and conducting regular rounds on campus. Provides access control programming, technical fluency on the Nextiva camera system, and serves as a lead trainer for the site. Completes performance reviews of direct reports on an annual or as required basis.
Supervises security staff on assigned shift including coaching and mentoring staff, and enforcing compliance of policies, procedures, regulations and standards. Coordinates and maintain staff scheduling. Relocates for shift/scheduling assistance at the Medical Center as needed/required.
Initiates and/or conducts security related investigations and those assigned by the Public Safety Director; Conducts follow-up investigations on possible Abuse & Neglect events to assure that policy & procedures were followed. Takes corrective measures if deficiencies were found.
Manages & audits appropriate labeling of client storage bins and client belongings storage/inventory area; works to perpetually reconcile any delinquent or unclaimed items post discharge per Campus policies.
Serves as primary point of contact for hospital department supervisors to address issues and promote safety, security and the welfare of patients, staff and visitors; represents the Department at EOC meetings at the Campus’ communicates important and timely information to the Public Safety Manager, Nursing Supervisor and Administrator on-call (AOC).

Qualifications
Licensure, Certification, Registration
Valid Ct Security Guard Certification (Guard Card)
Valid Driver License
CPR First Aid, previous training in de-escalation modalities (i.e. CPI, MOAB, etc.)
Maintains certifications in Restraint Training, Methods of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB), OCAT (Oleoresin Capsicum Aerosol Training), State of Connecticut Security Officer Certification (basic class – 8 hours)
Education:
Language Skills: Fluent in English and high level of grammatical ability to express oneself in the written word
