The Informatics Pharmacist participates in the design, development and on-going production support of the pharmacy information systems which integrate throughout the healthcare system in order to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of pharmacy service delivery and patient care.  Responsibilities include but, are not limited to the following:

  • Manages and maintains pharmacy information systems both within and across the hospital system by trouble-shooting, investigating, implementing and/ or testing modifications to ensure high quality and efficient delivery of pharmacy services.
  • Collaborates with Information Services to ensure departmental systems are compatible with overall Hospital systems requirements, standards and hardware specifications.
  • Analyzes network department needs, translates requirements into program design; develops, tests, and implements creative solutions to ensure the network department meets its goals in a cost-effective manner
  • Participates in strategic and budgetary planning for new technology by performing needs assessment, evaluation of available options, specification analysis, installation and training to ensure that the appropriate technologies are brought forth and implemented within the department network.
  • Generates a variety of reports and analyzes data as requested by manipulating and integrating different databases in order to meet the needs of the department network. Recognizes abnormal reporting patterns and initiates corrective action within scope of knowledge and expertise
  • Provides relevant and timely education to Pharmacy staff and other hospital staff on an as needed basis through formal and informal training sessions in order to ensure staff has the necessary knowledge to utilize pharmacy information systems effectively.
  • Works collaboratively as a team member with a variety of groups within the Pharmacy Department and across the hospital system. Shares resources, information, tools and ideas that improve the networked department's effectiveness and the hospital's overall information systems effectiveness.
  • Troubleshoots and problem solves department systems by providing 24 hour accountability in order to respond in a rapid manner in order for users to meet patient care and business needs.

Qualifications

Education:

  • PharmD degree from an accredited college of pharmacy. OR – licensed Pharmacists prior to 2002 Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.

Experience:

  • Three (3) or more years’ experience health-system pharmacist experience required
  • Prior experience as an informatics pharmacist preferred
  • Completion of an ASHP accredited residency in pharmacy informatics preferred

Licensure, Certification, Registration

  • Licensed as a registered Pharmacist in Connecticut or eligible to receive licensure within 45 days.
