Position Summary:

The Director will provide clinical and operational leadership for the Centralized Monitoring Department at Hartford Hospital, including the evaluation and coordination of new capital equipment and budget development and control. The Director will lead the development and implementation efforts to standardize monitoring practices for not only the Hartford Region but throughout Hartford Healthcare with a focus on best practice standards ensuring the highest quality and patient safety for cardiac monitoring via the Centralized Monitoring Unit and cascading these best practice processes throughout the Hartford HealthCare System.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic and operational goals and objectives related to centralized monitoring management.  Assess the current state in regard to Epic assignment and workflow and design the future state with an Epic-driven workflow to determine a centralized monitoring solution
  • Identify and follow-up on key program indicators to ensure consistency across all HHC sites.  Adapt standard work processes and alarm parameters in line with best practice standards to ensure policies and procedures are current and in compliance with applicable regulations and standards such as Joint Commission
  • Direct, educate and mentor the Centralized Monitoring leadership team to assist with both the clinical and the skilled technical and biomedical engineering needs to maintain the highest quality, best practice and performance improvement strategies
  • Serve as the ambassador and leader fulfilling the site agreement for the entire system, between programs, other internal departments and external partners.  Maintain quality and consistency throughout each HHC site utilizing the centralized monitoring service including process improvement initiatives
  • Work with executive leadership to develop and coordinate growth efforts, collaborate on projects, enhance patient care, maintain finances and further enhance and expand services. Direct the implementation of policies, procedures, and strategies as it relates to centralized monitoring management
  • Develop and evaluate monitoring management key performance indicators and major processes.  Assess current state data, define target metrics and create a dash board to monitor the indicators to adjust and correct as needed
  • Identify and engage interdisciplinary stakeholders to develop and implement policies and practices to deliver the optimal level of centralized monitoring standards
  • Maintain budget preparations, maintenance and facilitate cycle functions by monitoring Epic work queues, productivity measures and national benchmarks.  Oversees financial and operational support including evaluation and coordination of capital equipment
  • Provide leadership with insightful observations and action plans to address trends.  Plan for development and implementation of new programs/procedures regarding patient throughput, standards of care and best practices.  Provide feedback on all units utilizing the centralized monitoring system

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related healthcare field such as nursing, biomed, exercise science, etc. with extensive experience in an area of noninvasive cardiology
  • Seven plus years of experience in a large healthcare facility or system
  • Seven plus years of progressive responsibility in chosen field
  • Three plus years of management experience
  • Previous cardiac monitoring experience with an understanding of the integration of informatics, biomedical engineering and functions of the electronic health management record
  • Advanced arrhythmia interpretation skills
  • Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary team members in a collaborative business model across multiple sites
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to manage and utilize data generated by the monitoring system
  • Established reputation as a leader, consultant, and expert spokesperson for centralized monitoring management
  • Excellent Communication skills to lead, coach and mentor others and manage change efforts related to centralized monitoring management
  • Experience or knowledge of the clinical workflows necessary for device integration and the interoperability between medical device systems and mobile technologies
  • Technical aptitude for clinical alarms and workflows in the inpatient setting
