The Program Director, Cancer Care Delivery and Disparities Research is responsible for the development, coordination, support, and conduct of Cancer Care Delivery and Disparities Research (CCDDR) for The Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute. CCDDR focuses on the quality and cost effectiveness of cancer care, patient-oriented outcomes, and identifying and eliminating barriers to care, especially related to racial/ethnic/socioeconomic disparities and social determinants of health. The CCDDR research program is part of our overall Cancer Research Program.  The Program Director reports to the Director of Oncology Research and works collaboratively with the Medical Director of Cancer Care Delivery and Disparities Research.  Responsibilities include but, are not limited to:

  • Design, develop, and direct well-defined research agenda for Cancer Care Delivery and Disparities Research which is aligned with Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute goals. Including areas such as shared medical decision making, disparities, prevention/risk reduction, screening, geriatric oncology, health economics, palliative oncology and cancer survivorship.
  • Develop research relationships with Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) principal investigators and other collaborators to develop a strong portfolio of research trials.
  • Prepare grant proposals and publications independently and collaboratively.
  • Submit abstracts to and present research at national conferences with the aim of publication in peer-reviewed journals to increase national awareness of HHC CI.
  • Identify potential funding sources for self and others to develop a financially sustainable, externally funded, competitive oncology health services research program.
  • Collaborate with Cancer Institute clinical operations to implement research learning into clinical practice.
  • Mentor junior clinical faculty to develop research projects, obtain funding and enhance presentations, publications and academic standing.
  • Participate in system wide efforts to develop a data model and research platform to support observational research
  • Collaborate with Medical Director of CCDDR, Director and Medical Director of overall Cancer Research Program, and Cancer Institute leadership on overall vision and strategy of program.

Qualifications

Education:

  • PhD, DrPH or other doctoral degree in social sciences, public health, health services, nursing or other related field required

Experience:

  • Demonstrated commitment to and prior experience in conducting cancer delivery and/or disparity research, leadership experience and evidence of financial accountability for externally funded research programs
  • Prior experience conducting research in a hospital, health care system or university setting
  • Prior experience in creating cross institutional, multi-site cancer care delivery and disparities research highly preferred
