Job Description:
The clinical instructors are responsible for the education of surgical technology students through didactic instruction, laboratory and other clinical skill components of the surgical technology program. The instructor’s role is to provide ST students with the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to gain employment as entry-level surgical technologists and become contributing members of the health care team. This will be accomplished by preparing competent graduates in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning domains and meeting or exceeding the criteria set forth in the current CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines for the Accreditation of Educational Programs in Surgical Technology.
Qualifications
• Associate’s Degree required / Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
• A minimum total of three (3) years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five (5) years.
• Possess a current credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
• Directing, evaluating, and reporting student progress toward course objectives and for the periodic review and updating of course material for students enrolled in the surgical technology program.
• Organization, administration, continuous review, planning development and general effectiveness of clinical experiences for students enrolled in the surgical technology program.
• Evaluation of student’s cognitive knowledge, psychomotor skills and professionalism in the form of affective behavior within the domain of surgery.
