Job Summary:  Queries EPIC and other databases and develops reporting solutions, prepares insightful graphics that drive business decisions, and enhances all aspects of the operations of the department.  This includes but is not limited to clinical operations, safety and quality initiatives, expense management, patient experience metrics, and forecasting.

Job Responsibilities:  

  • Queries relevant data from EPIC and assimilates this data to support clinical, quality and operational initiatives across the Hartford Hospital Emergency Department.

  • Advises and consults with customers both internal and across the system by developing and maintaining a thorough knowledge and understanding of the departments business needs in order to make cost-effective and efficient recommendations.

  • Monitors and analyzes the clinical operations helping to enhance efficiency.

  • Assists with forecasting, budgets, and managing the departmental expenses.

  • Maintains department systems by investigating, implementing and testing modifications to ensure compliance with appropriate regulatory standards.

  • Educates and trains staff in the systems application where applicable and supporting report production to ensure requests are being met.  May recognize abnormal reporting patterns and initiates corrective action where required and within scope of knowledge and expertise.

  • Works collaboratively as a team member with user groups both within and across the system; shares resources, information, tools and ideas that improve the department's services.

  • Initiates self-development by maintaining a high degree of business function knowledge and current technologies and seeks opportunities to educate end-users and peers to promote a continuous learning environment.

  • Monitors and analyzes the safety and quality initiatives to enhance patient safety and clinical quality.

  • Leads others, drives results and proactively identifies and resolves problems by partnering with all levels of the organization.

  • Works independently by assuming project leadership and providing the highest quality of system consulting in order to ensure overall customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of information systems knowledge related to the field.  Master’s degree preferred, (MBA or MHA) May require specific technical/clinical/business degree.

Experience:  Four to six years relevant business analyst experience with strong skills working with and obtaining relevant data from EPIC and other applications/databasesProficiency with data manipulation tools such as Excel, Tableau, QlikView, QlikSense, or other data tools

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements

  • Enhances all aspects of the operations of the department with both internal and external customers.

  • Understanding of hospital operations.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer orientation required.

  • Strong PC and analytical skills essential.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.

  • Knowledge of electronic health record reporting and the use of computer-based applications.
