The creation of the HHC System Support Office recognizes the work of a large and growing group of employees whose responsibilities are continually evolving so that we and our departments now work on behalf of the system as a whole, rather than a single member organization.
With the creation of our new umbrella organization we now have our own identity with a unique payroll, benefits, performance management system, service recognition programs and other common practices across the system.


  • Under the direction of the Systems Engineering Manager this position focuses on implementation and support of complex IT systems over their lifecycle.
  • The Senior Engineer Level I is a supporting member of the team who is final escalation point within the Technical Support Organization.  Technical issues that cannot be resolved by levels 1 & 2 support staff are escalated to Senior Engineers.  This role is capable of troubleshooting and resolving the most difficult and complicated issues.  This position works closely with other Engineers, Administrators, Field Support, Development and Service Desk. 
  • Part of a talented team of architects, engineers, and administrators delivering mission critical infrastructure ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance, and security. 
  • Fast-paced environment is largely virtualized, scalable architecture, supporting the entire enterprise consisting of over 3,000 Windows servers. 
  • This challenging position will present complex problems and requires a highly skilled Engineer able to operate independently as well as within a team.  
  • Ideal candidate will demonstrate technical expertise across several diverse competencies including networking, virtualization, storage, enterprise system solutions, and ability to translate technical product and architecture to all levels.  Possess strong ability and knowledge to create strategies and plans for integration of multiple IT systems/subsystems into an operational unit, ensuring full functional and performance capabilities are retained.
  • Contributes to process/procedure.

  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft server products and applications, Active Directory, Group Policy, LDAP, ADFS, DNS, DHCP
  • Deployment and management of Citrix XenApp, NetScaler, StoreFront, Web Interface, and associated environments
  • Epic Healthcare software and systems
  • 2 factor authentication solutions such as RSA or Imprivata
  • Load Balancing such as F5 or Netscaler
  • Enterprise Antivirus solutions such as McAfee and Symantec
  • Windows OS Patching
  • Root Cause analysis and resolution
  • Wireshark network packet captures and analysis
  • Microsoft Exchange and Lync
  • SSL and Certificates
  • Powershell scripting
  • Storage and fileshares including DFS, SMB, CIF


  • Assist with the development and mentoring of all Systems Administrators and Analysts staff.
  • Lead or participate in multiple projects in accordance with institutional and departmental goals.
  • Coordinate the overall design and deployment of the technical environment, including servers, brokers, portals, operating systems, and middleware.
  • Oversee and participate in the ongoing maintenance of the server environment as well as all related infrastructure.
  • Provide clear vision, leadership and evaluation of emerging technologies and solutions and how they relate to a healthcare environment.
  • Responsible for creating and maintain the design and architecture of the virtualization environment.
  • Participate in the development of schedules, priorities, and determination of time lines and resources.
  • Develop and maintain a program of proactive system administration, including but not limited to a system of updates, patches and fixes, system enhancements, log monitoring, and system hardening.
  • Responsible for the day to day administration of the Configuration Management toolset; plans, executes, and audits the configuration data, and validates the accuracy of the CMDB content
  • Troubleshoot and repair all server related problems in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the efficient and effective use of storage resources, as well as the effective integration of storage management processes with other service delivery processes.
  • Create and maintain the architecture for event management and monitoring in the enterprise.
  • Develop and maintain a server recovery plan for all systems to include both a regular backup schedule and tested process for data restoration.
  • Help all departments in assuring that the highest level of customer satisfaction is maintained at all times.
  • Provide training and mentoring programs for all system administrators.
  • Maintain the highest level of integrity and professionalism in the system administration department.
  • Assist in developing ways to reduce the amount of incoming technical support requests.
  • Other job duties as assigned




  • Bachelor’s degree in IT related field preferred and a minimum of 2 years’ experience
    • Expertise in Microsoft Active Directory
    • Strong interdisciplinary skills; Microsoft platforms, VMware, Citrix, storage, backup, etc.
    • A broad and deep understanding of information technologies and how to leverage them as solutions to business requirements
    • Ability to conduct research into server and operating system issues, standards and products.
    • Demonstrated experience, knowledge and understanding of production environments.
    • Skills and discipline to keep systems patched, monitored and performing optimally.
    • Strong knowledge of data storage, backup and recovery best practices.
    • Strong knowledge of software configuration management is a plus.
    • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
    • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
    • Strong customer-service orientation.
    • Good judgment, integrity and confidentiality.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to appropriately handle stressful situations, critical deadlines, and a customer base with both high service level expectations and technical sophistication.
    • Availability to work nights and weekends during (un)planned outages and other special circumstances, with 24/7 accountability.
    • Availability to respond to severe incident escalation by on-call manager.
