St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport has more than 3,200 employees. It includes a 473-bed community teaching hospital, a 76-bed inpatient psychiatric facility in Westport, a large multispecialty provider group, and special needs services for adults and children. St. Vincent’s is the first hospital in Fairfield County to be integrated into the Hartford HealthCare network, and is the system’s second-largest hospital.

Job Summary 

The Perioperative Services Business & Data Manager works closely as a member of the management team to facilitate the integration, management, and data needs for Department of Surgery. This position works with the physicians, management and staff to integrate and develop information tracking systems, provide data and data analysis related to business operations, and assist with improvement initiatives and system changes.

This position may manage staff.

Responsibilities 

  • Works with leadership to analyze current operational systems and recommends changes to increase effectiveness and efficiency in workflow process.
  • Prepares financial analysis for all clinical programs in Perioperative Services.
  • Coordinates development of, and produces, monthly statistical reports and trend analysis that support strategic goals of the service line.
  • Provides reports for efficiency metrics, block utilization, and cost awareness to the Leadership Team.
  • Maintains the Block Schedule for all Perioperative areas.
  • Sends block utilization, and quality and efficiency metric letters to the Surgeon/group block holders on a quarterly basis and as requested.
  • Assists with developing any business plans, including but not limited to new value-added surgical programs as well as assessment reviews documenting the value of current programs.
  • Analyzes historical trends, forecasts and budget targets based on productivity standards and other measures to ensure that the performance of the clinical business units are within organizational targets.
  • Works closely with leadership team and Supply Chain to ensure accurate billing and allocation of supplies and materials within the service line.
  • Takes the initiative to identify cost-savings opportunities.  Completes a thorough analysis of cost savings initiatives.
  • Participates on the local and system CVT committees.
  • Supports Volume growth initiatives by participating in outreach to surgeons and their office staff.
  • Assists in preparation of annual operating, capital, and volume budgets, and surgical targets.
  • Exercises the usual authority of a manager concerning performance, reviews, promotions, salary recommendations and terminations. Coaches, develops and inspires staff to maximize their potential.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Credentials

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance or related field.

Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience in budget, finance and/operations. 

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements 

  • Excellent finance and analytical skills necessary to gather and interpret quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to distill complex issues and detailed analysis into simplified structured frameworks.
  • Excellent Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Robust analytical skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with all levels of colleagues. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
  • Excellent skills in PC desktop applications to include Microsoft, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Advanced Outlook.
  • Ability to lead, supervise, coordinate and hold staff accountable.
