Job Summary:

Lead the growth of the annual campaign and grateful patient pipeline by programmatic implementation and accessing data to strategically move patient prospects to consistent donors through the pipeline.

Job Responsibilities:

Role: Programmatic Management of the Annual Campaign

•Provide oversight to the Annual Campaign direct mail campaign, producing a timely and effective solicitation schedule and sticking to deadlines. Ensure coordination of all aspects of direct mail solicitation including the tracking and analysis of financial results, as well as income and expenses of appeals.  Develop and manage direct mail budget.

•Develop and implement strategic plan to grow the annual campaign. Analyze annual campaign demographics and giving trends to better focus hard-copy, email and face-to-face solicitations.

•Maintain a portfolio of 150-200 mid to high level Annual Campaign donors for cultivation and pipeline movement toward Major Gift and/or Planned Giving.

Role: Programmatic management of the Grateful Patient Program 

•Develop and implement strategic plan to grow the grateful patient program. Analyze data and giving trends to better focus hard-copy, email and face-to-face solicitations. Support development officers as they contact, solicit, cultivate, visit and steward grateful patient donors.

•Provide support as the liaison to key hospital staff to promote the program which many include suggesting materials to assist in promotion, attending staff meetings, and making visits to patients and/or family members.

•Select administrative support, including but not limited to Press Ganey and department-specific mailings, handling monthly interface with direct mail company for patient acquisition mailing and email solicitation.

Role: Management of the Colleague Giving Campaign/HHC CARES Campaign

•Act as the Hartford Hospital liaison for the Hartford HealthCare Employee Giving Campaign.

•Working with other HHC development offices and Planning & Marketing, create marketing and solicitation schedule to promote the campaign to staff across the system; create HH-specific marketing plan to solicit internal colleague.

•Administrative support, including submission of new colleague donors to Payroll, acknowledgement letter generation, yearly tax letter email, biweekly payroll batch posting and new employee orientation email solicitation.

Role: Development Team Work

•Prepare confidential donor bio briefing, giving summaries, information packets, memos on requested donors and prospects, specifically Grateful Patient and mid-level donor prospects. 

•Identify, propose and manage new opportunities to strengthen the effectiveness and efficiency donor identification and solicitation.


  • Bachelor’s Degree, Development training in healthcare philanthropy preferred.
  • Minimum three years of experience in non-profit, direct mail fundraising, peer to peer fundraising, or a related field required preferred.
  • Previous experience in non-profits, direct mail fundraising, prospect management, and donor databases (Raiser’s Edge). Understanding of moves management principals and objectives. General research experience.
  • Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Strong project management skills.
  •  Disciplined; strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail, and ability to execute tasks and duties within deadlines.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments while meeting deadlines; monitor and meet goals set with supervisor.
  • Independently discern work priorities. Work with a wide variety of individuals at varying levels and departments of the organization to gain consensus and get tasks.
