The creation of the HHC System Support Office recognizes the work of a large and growing group of employees whose responsibilities are continually evolving so that we and our departments now work on behalf of the system as a whole, rather than a single member organization. Summary

Provides leadership and management of the Care Logistics Behavioral Health staff.  Oversees all BH inpatient admissions and transfers and works closely with senior leadership in all facilities between all points of entry to facilitate the continuous throughput of patients. Develops and refines bed management protocols that support efficient and safe patient throughput. Collaborates with administrators and clinical management to identify, implement and evaluate processes to support the efficient, safe throughput of all patients. Responsible for managing and refining the customer-centered process for the BH Care Logistics Center including but not limited to patients, referring and attending physicians, referring facilities and HHC staff.  Develops the staff to optimize their personal growth and contributions to the organization.  Reports to the Director of Care Logistics and Vice President of the Behavioral Health Network.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates behavioral health facility transfers, implement protocols, maintains communication with all parties including but not limited to attending/accepting physicians, referring facilities and HHC staff.

  • Resource to Care Logistic and hospital based staff including nurses, physicians, and administration in resolving behavioral health patient placement issues. Also point person to enact “bed alert protocols” related to bed shortages, ie afternoon planning meetings as well as assures the state, local, and federal reporting bed counts are complete.

  • Assures communications such that all staff supporting the behavioral health admissions process at the Care Logistics Center throughout a 24-hour day are working in concert to produce a consistent process.

  • Using service based protocols and algorithms, apply hospital and system wide policies and procedures related to bed management.  Works with teams to ensure the collection, dissemination and compliance with admission and transfer protocols.

  • Manages quality assurance and audit processes relating to performance and quality enhancement aspects of bed utilization projects, provides a working knowledge of the bed management process to support management decisions of the individual hospitals and departments

  • Manages scheduling of the work unit to ensure that all areas are sufficiently covered and insures that work schedules are posted in a timely manner.

  • Participates in departmental, inter departmental and inter disciplinary committees which influences or recommends policies and or procedures affecting the throughput of patients.

  • Coordinates evaluating and advancing technology to support the Care Logistics Center.  Participates in the planning, development, conversion, and implementation of systems utilized by the Care Logistics staff.  Insures that users have appropriate training to perform their job functions.

  • Working with the Director, assists in the development of relevant reports and the sharing of findings with appropriate parties.

  • Formulates solutions to complex problems while meeting the changing demands and priorities of the hospital environment.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with active CT RN license.  Bachelor’s Degree required

  • Minimum 5 years’ acute care inpatient clinical psychiatric experience required.

  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience to include concerns of throughput capacity in acute care environment.
