Job Summary

The Purchasing Assistant is responsible for all of Windham Hospital’s procurement activity. They work independently to coordinate purchasing activity between requesters (Windham Staff) and the supplier community.  
•    Significant attention to detail and diligence should be used to monitor market price trends with the goal of achieving cost savings for the hospital.  
•    In accordance with corporate policies and procedures the Purchasing Assistant will develop and maintain working relationships with external suppliers, and internal customers, to facilitate adequate sources of supply. They will ensure high quality; cost–effective product or services are delivered in support of the HHC core values and strategic plan. 
•    The Purchasing Assistant must support product conversions, system changes, and process improvement opportunities. 

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:  

3-5 years of purchasing experience.  5 years of purchasing in healthcare preferred.

Licensure, Certification, Registration: 

APICS Certified, APICS Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements:  
Negotiation skills
Ability to work independently 
PeopleSoft Procurement module knowledge
Exemplary customer service skills
Strong communication skills -both written and verbal
Data analysis skills
Contract terms and conditions knowledge
Ability to collaborate and communicate with all levels of clinical and non-clinical staff.
