When hospitals cannot provide the advanced care, expertise and new treatment options their patients require, they turn to us.

At Hartford HealthCare, we strive for a balance of career and lifestyle. We offer a stimulating work environment that inspires excellence. Join us in our vision to be nationally respected for patient care and most trusted for personalized coordinated care.

Here at Hartford Hospital, our Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at the Ayer Neuroscience Institute is a NAEC-Level 4 Epilepsy Center. We are expanding our outpatient and inpatient services for people with seizures, including a program for the surgical treatment of epilepsy. Our reputation for providing complex and innovative care to those in need is built on the foundation of excellence in patient care, teaching and research. The team is committed to creating an innovative patient centered delivery system that continuously improves quality care. The EEG Techs are a part of this multidisciplinary team that delivers care for this complex population.

We seek an enthusiastic, motivated person to join the learning and working environment in our EEG lab.  Our focus is providing the most sophisticated care available with a personal touch.

We combine on-the-job-training with a didactic curriculum and person-to-person review sessions to ensure staff learn all the necessary skills to have confidence they are providing outstanding care. Our goal is that all of our Technologists become registered by ABRET, the national board for EEG Technologists, and develop their job into a career!

Job Summary:

The EEG Tech performs electroencephalograms (EEGs) used to monitor and record brain activity to assist care providers in the evaluation and treatment of epilepsy and seizure disorders.  The main activities of the role include:

• Routine EEGs
• Long Term Monitoring EEGs
• Ambulatory EEGs
• Real-time monitoring of patients for seizures

Prior to an EEG exam, the EEG Tech reviews the patient's medical history and meets with patient/caregivers to explain the procedure and answer questions.  The patient is prepared for the exam by attaching electrodes to the patient’s head and calibrating equipment.  During the exam, the EEG Tech operates equipment, modifies and adjusts recording strategy, and documents patient behavior and clinical events.  After the exam the electrodes are removed and the equipment disinfected.  The study summary is then shared with an Epileptologist who reads and reports on it.

EEG Technologists also participate in a process of continuous learning to pursue eligibility for and achievement of ABRET Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist (R. EEG T.) certification.  Upon achieving registration EEG Technologists may assist in more advanced tests including SPECT, Wada, and intracranial EEG.

Schedule and Location:

Training is held Monday through Friday for the duration of the training period.  Once trained, this position is scheduled for four days per week.  This includes periodic weekends, some holidays and overnights, and being on-call.

Staff are assigned to Hartford Hospital as the primary location though may be occasionally flexed to other HHC sites to assist with EEG coverage.
