Charlotte Hungerford Hospital is a 122-bed, general acute care community hospital located in Torrington, Connecticut, that serves as a regional health care resource for the 100,000 residents of Litchfield County and Northwest Connecticut. We’re seeking a talented and caring Patient Representative for our outpatient team in Winsted. This is a great opportunity to work with a diverse patient population, in a large office, that offers a wonderful team atmosphere with experienced clinicians.
According to Department policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols, performs various duties including patient registration and scheduling, insurance authorizations, physician correspondence, charge entry, patient chart monitoring, answering phones, and handling phone messages. The position requires the ability to multi-task, identify priorities, and problem solving independently. The individual in this position must be poised and mature with the ability to interact and assist individuals at all levels of this and other institutions. Excellent customer service skills are required.
Under the direction of the Site Supervisor and/or Department Director, the Patient Representative performs a variety of secretarial, billing and clerical duties. Responsibilities include: utilizing the electronic medical record (EMR) to schedule initial evaluations and follow up appointments and process patient charges; coordinating referrals; preparing the proper paperwork and collecting pertinent patient information; answering phones; performing other related duties as assigned. The Patient Representative provides support to the clinical staff to provide optimum service to patients.
Critical Success Factors
Past experience working in medical office highly preferred. Ability to work and handle a fast-paced diversified working environment. Knowledge of medical terminology and outpatient third party reimbursement preferred. Requires effective organizational and interpersonal skills needed for anticipating and reacting to various needs of both patients and medical personnel. Ability to multi-task and address multiple priorities simultaneously.
